Ж-Men...but not the ones you might expect! This week LJ Russia launched Ж-Men, a new comedy series about superheroes, inspired by the LJ communities dedicated to superheros, comics and cartoons. The title's "Ж" comes from ЖЖ, the nickname for LiveJournal in Russia.
Ж-Men's script is written by a group of LJ enthusiasts who also happen to be television professionals. Who knew? Following the premiere, five more episodes will be broadcast over the next two weeks. We hope you find the series fresh and enjoyable.
This is, of course, an experiment for LiveJournal. As always, we'd love to hear what you think!
Who needs media storage space? Before the great DVD sale (still ongoing), massive amounts of DVD storage was a necessity for me. And my inability to work the "quantity" field on a form meant I had twice as many media storage cabinets as I needed anyhow. Now Cindy & Jason have gotten a treadmill for the livingroom, which means the two empty media cabinets I have in the living room need to go.
Anyone interested in taking any of these off my hands?
Media Cabinet (x2) - $100@ ($150 retail) These cabinets have shelves on the doors, so you can fit 360 DVDs or 600CDs. They are already assembled and ready to move. The photo shows a lighter color wood, but the ones I have are a darker brown.
Top-Loading Media Cabinet - $200 ($250 retail) This cabinets is just like the other ones, except it also has a lid that opens for an additional layer of DVDs (spine-up), for a capacity of 449 DVDs or 843 CDs . This one is still unassembled in the box, just like new. The photo shows a lighter color wood, but the ones I have are a darker brown.
Short Attention Span Knee Update Here's an update in my knee recovery, with bullet points for the attention-impaired:
Day 1: Surgery apparently went really well. I was dopey for hours after while the anesthetic wore off, but the pain was only a 3 out of 10 and I was able to go see Hellboy II. I slept just fine that night, though only 4 hours.
Day 2: The nerve block wore off at 2:00 and the pain kicked in full force. OW! I took a pain pill at 2:30 and another one at 10:30. The pain pills kicked butt - took the edge off and let me sleep 8 hours straight, which never happens.
Day 3: I fell. slipped on a shoe that kayla left in the hall, and on the way down instinctively caught myself - all my weight - on the bad leg. Screamed as the leg buckled and hit my head on the way down. Very dramatic. Still managed to make it all the way till 8pm before I took a pain pill.
Day 4: One of the worst days of my life. Turns out the pain pills depress me, even though there's no codeine in them (I have a codeine allergy, it makes me suicidally depressed). I spent the day sobbing, completely undone. I've never been so low, not even when loved ones have died. Luckily I realized it was chemical, swore off the pain pills, and got help in dealing with my broken head.
Day 5: Saw the doctor for my followup. Thank you to phantom_archer for driving all the way down to my place, then driving me all the way up to Daly City! You are my savior, hero and angel. Doc unlocked my brace to 90 degrees, so when I'm physically able to bend my leg, I'm allowed. AND, I can put as much weight on it as I want. Of course, that equals about 5 lbs at the moment. *laugh*
Today: OMG I pushed it too hard last night with the bending and the putting weight. I hurt a LOT. Thanks to chelleann77 for the recommendation of Excedrin, the pain is manageable but OMG ow. I have, however, been able to shave my legs (yay bending!) and put on normal clothes (yay swelling down so much!). I feel a little bit like me again!
I am not bored. I am hurting badly but I will not be pursuing more prescription painkillers. I am healing quicker than the doctor expected. My leg is yellow and purple and not sexy at all. I think my quad and calf on that leg are already atrophying, so I'm starting to do limited exercises. (of course, it could just be that I got used to all that swelling) I start physical therapy next week. I can drive as soon as I can stomp on the gas pedal, I expect that'll be another day or two for short trips, no freeway.
Thank you to leitis23 for being so supportive, understanding and calm. I have new appreciation for what you go through every single day, and I admire you so much more for it. Not only did you talk me out of one of my lowest moments, you showed me how brave and strong you are. I love you so much!
Update of the babble variety Nothing much to report on this end. Working on working out... trying to get a little smaller in the middle.
Need to finish my next game entry. I've been working on it at work in between screens loading, outgoing messages playing, statements and invoices to print out, etc...
Been waking up with music on the brain... it's like my subconscious is trying to tell me something. LOL! One time it was "Morningside" by Sara Bareilles. This morning it was "Miss You, Love You" by Maroon 5. I can't remember the others at the moment. I think there was a Beatles song in there somewhere.
Finished "Blood Noir" by Laurell K. Hamilton. Now I'm on "Battle of the Labyrinth" by Rick Riordan (I think I got the title right... it's the next Percy Jackson book.)
I'm just babbling because I can't sleep. Perhaps I should try and sleep. La la la.
Okay goodnight.

I'm sore... Today was the beginning of the second week of me exercising.
I upped my walk from 30 minutes to 45 minutes and upped the reps of the other exercises I do from 10 to 15. (My arms are feeling the push-ups and chair-lifts.)
Other than that, not much to report.
I need to get my tires rotated... or perhaps I'll just have that done next time I go in for an oil-change. Who's to say?
My brother emailed me updates on his life and his family's. My niece is eating baby food now. She's experienced pureed carrots and now peas (which is good since my sister-in-law has hated green veggies since she was a baby... we're glad my niece didn't inherit her hate of green food). She's being eased into the food... finishing off doses with formula. They're also having to re-crib train her. She's become clingy and used to sleeping in bed with mommy and daddy. My brother has a plan... hopefully it'll work out.
My sister-in-law, according to my brother, has decided to shave her head this weekend... or rather have my brother shave it for her. The chemo has knocked most of her hair out and the little that is left is sparse and dying. My brother told her that he'd shave his head with her. She said no, but my brother is thinking of doing it anyway. He joked about taking a family photo. That would be cute. All three of them having the same hairstyle.
Nothing much else to report. Work is still work. I found out from the Chicago warehouse people that the company is closing down that warehouse. So instead of having the option of placing orders there, my agents can do it through the portal (aka online) or contact the call desk located in Sacramento. From what one of the Chicago ladies told me, other warehouse locations are opening up in my region so depending on where the product is going will determine which warehouse it'll be coming from. Before everything came from one place, and my deadline was to have orders released by 2pm for Chicago to ship things out on-time. Now I'm going to learn a whole new routine. The process will essentially be the same, but damn... I hate change sometimes.
Okay, it's 1:30am, and I need to try and get some sleep although I'm not sleepy. Just sore.
Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog - Act 1 Act one of Dr Horrible has been posted, three hours ahead of schedule. Not surprisingly, it's brilliant. And it's already available for purchase on iTunes as well ($1.99/act or all three for $3.99).
Remember, act 2 will go up on Thursday and act 3 on Saturday, then the free versions will be removed from the web after Sunday, with the download and (eventually) DVD and soundtrack still available after that.
There is treasure on those airships flying back from the Imperial colonies and you can be found wherever there is treasure.Sometimes you don’t know what you prefer, having the loot or getting the loot. You have your own crew of engineers, bodgers, tinkerers and fians to keep your airship fast and powerful. Those lumbering cargo ships can’t withstand your assault after you fire off the grappling hooks.Oh there is always a fight, but that is part of the fun.
just fine didn't get into the operating room till 12:22 because they had to order a screw. then the surgery took much longer than expected. I got home around 4:30 and am just fine, though dopey as hell. Hugs to everyone. Going to see Hellboy now!
True Blood... At stoic_rose's the other night, I was flipping through the latest Entertainment Weekly and completely geeked out when I saw an add for TruBlood. (Website here.)
Tru Blood Beverage Vampires, embrace the night... all of the flavor, none of the bite. Sink your teeth in at TruBeverage.com
I love the products and type finder. LOL!!!
I wonder if they'll ACTUALLY make some type of beverage for sale. That would be cool. :)
It's a clever ad for the upcoming HBO series "True Blood" - an adaptation of the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire series written by Charlaine Harris. Alan Ball (writer of American Beauty and Six Feet Under) is behind this project so I have hope. Series from other books I read (The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher on SciFi - cancelled after one season & Blood Ties by Tanya Huff [Victory Nelson novels] on Lifetime - cancelled after two seasons) haven't done so well... but Alan Ball is made of geeky wonderful WIN... so hopefully it'll work out.
The only name I recognize on the cast is Anna Paquin (Rogue from the Xmen movies... and little Flora from The Piano) -- she'll be playing Sookie. I can't wait. :D I have the latest Sookie-book to read... currently working on Blood Noir by Laurell K. Hamilton. Other than the Sookie-book, I have the latest Percy Jackson book to read. Which one should I read first after Blood Noir? Not sure. Any suggestions?
